Lumps/Tumors

It is important to see your dermatologist for a thorough history and physical examination regarding any new lumps/tumors, especially if it has changed in size, shape, or appearance, or if you are having any new symptoms.

Lumps/Tumors

Benign Growths

Examples of a few benign (non-cancerous) tumors include lipomas, which are growths of fat cells. Epidermoid or sebacous cysts are also benign growths that are commonly seen.

Malignant Growths

The most common types of skin cancer includes basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Depending on your case, Dr. Fakheri may take a biopsy of the tissue to determine whether or not the growth is malignant (cancerous). This process involves taking a sample of the skin tissue for lab testing under the microscope.
